The Last-Week-of-the-Month Matter

In our church we have what we call Home Teachers and Visiting Teachers. It is the way that the every member in the church has a personal contact each month. Home Teachers are the men of the church and they are assigned families to visit each month. Visiting Teachers are the woman in the church and they are assigned to other woman to visit each month. So essentially every family should have a personal visit from church members twice a month. That is the ideal-- that often falls short.

Within the church there is no other job more important then this. Essentially we are assessing needs, building friendships, we are lifting one another's burdens. We are asked to visit often and to make at least one visit a month. Some do it as a check off the list-- others do it because they see that they are in the service of their God. As the month draws to a close-- I reflect upon what I do and do not do in this matter. I came across this video-- it helps put it all into perspective. We all need them-- angels from heaven-- God sends them, they come as friends and neighbors and hopefully as home teachers and visiting teachers too.
