Orange Juice Sales- 2nd Day

I talked the kids out of doing the door to door sales today.  I was afraid that hitting the same homes as last night would be harassing our neighbors!   I suggested setting up a Orange Juice Stand.  They have been at it for 3 hours and haven't sold anything, it appears to not be as lucrative as knocking on doors.  Notice they are selling the neighbors free oranges for a $1.00 or you can have the small dixie cub of fresh squeezed orange juice for .50 cents.  I would say that is a bargain!

So it seems the boys have the perseverance to start their own business, however they need to keep personal consumption of the product down.  Here is Chance embarrassed after I asked what happened to the orange juice.
As I write this post... the boys have change locations.  I wondered how long it would take them before they realized how important location is!

Fresh Squeezed Orange juice- Two Thumbs Up

For working at the Webelos Day Camp, Jordan and Chance got a juice squeezer filled with candy.   Chance was really excited to use the juice squeezer and before Scott and I could go on our date that night I had to get Chance a few oranges from our neighbors tree.  The next morning Chance pulled out two glasses of orange juice from the fridge for Scott and I.  Yumm, it was good.

A few days later he decided he could sell fresh squeezed orange juice to the neighborhood.  He rounded up his friends, they picked two bags of oranges and spent a while juicing them all.   They sold small dixie cup size for .75 cents.  They earned some money but the problem was the timing, it was 8:30 at night!   But when Chance gets something in his mind, it is really hard to deter him from it and so I let this be a battle I choose not to fight.

Fresh Squeezed Orange juice-  Thumbs up!

His fellow entrepreneurs and another thumbs up!
Don't you wish you could have glass?

Happy Birthday Packer

Packer means "dweller at the brook"

Packer is my my brother Duane's son.  I just saw him for the 4th of July and these are some pictures from our afternoon at El Capitan State Beach north of Santa Barbara.

Packer loved the ocean and he was not the least bit afraid to try boogie boarding.   He did that for quite awhile, unfortunately I did not get any pictures of him doing it.   When he was not boogie boarding he was jumping waves.

Hope you have had a fantastic birthday Packer.  I am glad I got to see you a few weeks ago and that Chance had a buddy for awhile.  Thanks for your sweet smile.

Happy Belated Birthday Bryton!

Bryton~ Meaning  Bright, Happy

Bryton is my Niece, she is Coeby and Lori's daughter.  I have not known Bryton all her life, but she never hesitated for a moment to accept me as her Aunt and give me big hugs every time she sees me.   She celebrated her birthday a week ago today- July 5.

Here are some pictures from that great trip to Utah I had a year ago.  These pictures really show her fun personality.

Bryton is in the turquoise shirt showing us her muscles!

Here she is in the back ground, I do not remember if she was giving a great pose for the camera or if she was pointing out something she saw.  Either way it made for a great picture!

In looking up the meaning of her name, one site said it is a very rare name for a girl.

Happy Birthday Bryton, sorry I missed it last week.
Thanks for the smiles and hugs!
Always be Happy, Bright, and Excellent!

Happy Birthday Katelynn!

Katelynn means kind, caring, and warm hearted.

Katelynn is my sister Brenda's daughter.   These pictures were taken last year when I was in Utah.  Katelynn is the one holding her cousin, Jens.  I think her name fits her perfectly, don't you, as she is also pictured below keeping Jens entertained on the blanket.  Kind, Caring and Warm Hearted!

Happy Birthday Katelynn, hope you are having a great one today!

Yosemite- The Journey

“To get through the hardest journey we need take only one step at a time, but we must keep on stepping”
                                                                                                                                                           ~Chinese Proverb

Here it finally is- Scott and Jordan's 50 Miler, JUNE 14 -20.   Scott has a video on You Tube with more pictures- click here - be sure to hit the "View in High Quality" button.  So as the narrator and having not been on the hike-- I will do my best!!  If you click on the picture you can view it larger.

Troop 949 and 945 at Glacier Point.  This is where they started- that is Half Dome in the back ground.

The rivers were swollen-- here they cross in water pretty close to their waists.  They carried their boots and socks.  Those who had sandals wore them across, others had to do it barefoot.  One kid brought flip flops-- he watched one float on down.

Since this is our family blog, I have purposely pulled out the pictures of Jordan in Scott's collection.  This is Jordan, the pack mule-- he is a hiking machine.

Here they are at an elevation with snow.  Burrr.... notice the bear canisters.  What you must use to backpack in Yosemite- all food and toiletries go in these canisters.  The boys each carried one.

Happy Hikers!

Love this shot-- Scott captured Jordan taking a picture of Half Dome.
Another picture of Jordan taking a picture!

Here the boys crossed the stream in style!

I think Scott took this picture of what NOT to do--- eat in the same place you sleep.   Luckily the boys did not have an encounter with the bears this night.

Ryan, Jordan, and Scott

This is climbing up Half Dome-- you leave your pack behind and climb with a day pack-- walk between ropes.

Ryan and Jordan at the top of Half Dome

Jordan and Scott at the TOP of Half Dome

One of the boys wrote the words "Epic" with rocks-- Scott said that people make sculptures, words, ect with the rocks on top of Half Dome.

Awesome picture of everyone who made the climb to the top of Half Dome-- two boys stayed at the base-- it is a pretty step climb.

Returning to the base, notice all the gloves to the right of the picture.  Those are there to avoid cable burn, you return them when you come back down.
There were a lot of people going up when the boys were coming down.  You share the same path... click on the picture and you can get a better look of the boys trying to squeeze past those going up.  Never go outside the rope-- heard of that happening and the man went bye-bye.

The last stretch of the hike- Misty Falls.  I have been here, it was a killer climb.  Step pathway that is right next to the falls.

Here is the Proof, Jordan--I did not blog for a week!

It has been over a week since I have blogged.  I am still alive and nothing bad has happened to the family or anyone around us.  I just took a little break and I actually did have to do some housework during the few days I was at home with no place to be other then preparing for the next camping adventure.   So as much as I wanted to blog, I could not stand to hear my 15 year old say again, "Is that all you do is blog?!"  So I dragged my body from the lap top and forced myself to do yard work and clean the house...  See Jordan, your Mom does so much more then sit in front of the computer--

At this very moment I am sitting in front of our Airstream at the Bakersfield RV Resort.  We made our annual pilgrimage to Solvang for the 4th of July-- met up with my sister, Marlo and family and my brother, Duane and family for the parade, boogie boarding at the beach, BBQ at our campsite and fireworks in Solvang that were canceled....bummer!  But we totally understood since we thought we had escaped the North Cal fires, only land right into the big, big fire we could see glowing at night and smell its smoke and wake up to it's ash.  But I will write more about it at a later date.

We made a detour to attend my niece's baptism today and will head home in the morning.   And  then Jordan, Chance and I will be staffing at Webelos Day camp all next week,  so I am taking these few moments, to let you know that I am alive and kicking and hope to catch you all up-- besides journal our week.
