As this blog is posting (it is a delayed post) -- I am surprising my parents at their 40th anniversary celebration lunch at Chuck-a-Rama in UTAH. Between my husband's words of encouragement, my blog I wrote on the Thursday about them, and my Mom's email saying lunch was "Mom and Dad's treat"-- how could I resist the urge to buy a ticket at the last minute-- it would only seem right that since I was in attendance for their 1st Anniversary and I surprised them for their 30th-- that I should be there for the 40th, hopefully I will surprise them yet again!
My parents are not extravagant- but if they need something they buy it, if something breaks they fix it or replace. My mom is a bargain shopper, always has been! But the one thing that they can't buy, fix, replace or bargain for is their kids coming to visit. I am the only one of the eight they have not seen this summer-- so I thank Scott for making it possible for me to go for the weekend! MasterCard (actually Discover) makes it possible, giving them the gift of a surprise visit-- PRICELESS!
What else has been happening this week...
Jordan's been at Scout camp all week-- Scott spent the beginning half of the week with him and is returning back to camp Saturday morning to help drive the boys home. Chance and I kept ourselves busy, which I must say we did much better then we did when Scott and Jordan did the 50 miler, that was a bad week!! Many thanks to my friend Tamara for calling me up and saying lets do this and this. (Her husband was at camp also)
So on Tuesday I joined a group of Moms and kids from church. We took the Oakland/Alameda Ferry to Fisherman's Wharf in San Fransisco specifically to have lunch and to go to the Mechanical Museum. Never have gone to SF on the ferry-- it was the most enjoyable and scenic way to go! If I get time, I will post more pictures and write more.
Chance and I on the ferry, SF is in the background. Someday Chance will be really embarrassed that when he was asked to say cheese- he does a silly face instead. In fact, he just can't seem to pose and smile anymore! Just one of his little quirks!
The first game we came to at the Mechanical Museum, "Batting Practice". The museum is FREE. Just need quarter to play the machines. I have lots of pictures-- I will show you more so you can get an idea of how interesting of a this place is. Chance had a lot of fun.
On Wednesday we did another Trail Trekker Hike with the cub scouts. This time to Coyote Hills Regional Park, loved it, it was another great place we have never visited. Here are the Scouts and their siblings at the top of the Red Hill.
On Friday evening we attended a musical in Oakland called "Seussical". It was up the road from the Oakland Temple in the Joaquin Miller Park. They have an outside theatre and it was really a fun family place to go. We enjoyed the show-- except it was late (they need it to be dark for the lighting). It got over at10 pm and by that time the fog was rolling in and Chance was cold. (I told him to wear long sleeves under his jacket) But it was very enjoyable and was a story about "Horton the Who" mixed with other Dr. Seuss stories. And many thanks to Chevron's sponsorship that enables all children to attend free!
We had a great week that kept Chance and I busy. I was a much happier person and besides I got to spend it with friends and did things I have never done before. That's a lot of good for one week!
