"Breaking Dawn" eBook or hard copy?

For my birthday my family gave me a Kindle   When I opened my present I had no idea what it was.  Never heard of a Kindle.  Jordan helped me get it out of the package all the while he is explaining "it holds 200 books and they are $10.00 or less!"  I was trying to visualize all these books inside the box he was opening and I could tell that my family was really excited for me to have this new gadget.  In mind I kept thinking..."but I do not buy very many books and the ones I do-- I like being able to have them physically available".     Jordan had read about it in his Popular Science Magazine and thought would a great gift for Mom!   Since April, after reading the Twilight Series, I have been on a reading rampage trying to find a book as good as those--- it is a very thoughtful gift!

My review of my Kindle after using for 2 weeks:
It took me a bit to get used to reading from it.  The buttons and controls were simple to use, but I noticed right away that the "next page" button was too easily hit and made it hard to hold the book comfortably.  The first thing we purchased was the Bible, Book of Mormon and other LDS books because Scott thinks I will take this to Church-- oh I have thoughts on that I will mention later.  But actually-- it makes it so I have my scriptures with me where ever I take the Kindle, that is convenient!  The next book we downloaded was a sample of "Twilight"  (I have read this, but do not own it).  All the books have a sample download-about the first few chapters or so- after reading to this point you're prompted to buy it if you like it!
There I was on the freeway heading home from Santa Cruz when I finish the sample of "Twilight", I clicked "yes",the book downloads in less then 60 sec. and I continue reading!  (of course I was going to buy it-- you can't just read the first few chapters of Twilight and stop!   I thought I could- but for $6.00- just download baby!)  Well with the effortless reading I flew through the book faster the 2nd time around.   I even tried to turn the pages like a regular book-- so after awhile you just read and forget that it is an electronic device.

A cool feature is that you set it to the font size that works best for you.  Hate to say it, but I am finding that the larger print is easier for me to see and with all my late night reading maybe it will save me from eye strain.
I like being able to see the reviews on the books.  You can also look up words you do not understand.  You can also highlight and make comments as you read along.  I have downloaded some free books that were available and am trying out some magazines on a two week trial-- like a mystery short story magazine and Readers Digest.   The more I use it the more I can see the advantages to it.  So I think it was a fun, useful, and thoughtful purchase.

That leads me into the long awaited 4th book "Breaking Dawn"  Tonight at midnight is the release!!  A week ago I thought since Amazon is pre-selling the book, I should be able to pre-order the eBook in the Kindle Store.  I did!  I was so excited and it was just $7.99.  Later when I was looking through my Kindle- there was "Breaking Dawn".  I was surprised because I did not expect it to show up until Aug 2.  And so I got right busy and started reading it!

Not!  Turns out it was "Breaking Dawn" by some other author.  Yes, what is the deal with that? ... sent a nice letter to Amazon and they refunded my money and deleted the download.  On Wednesday, July 30, I received this text on the my Daily Kindle News.
"The torture has been extended. We've just been notified by the publisher that the eBook release of "Breaking Dawn" by Stephenie Meyer has been changed from August 2nd to August 3rd.  As a result, the title will be available as a Kindle download at midnight, eastern time, on August 3rd.  Yes, we'd choose death by ant bites, too."

Well at least I felt the sympathy.  But folks,  I'm going to Costco on Saturday morning to get my book-- curse the technology!  Besides-- I could not take my eScriptures to church because of that addicting book would be calling me from the memory of the Kindle!

Karalene's a Stephanie Meyers addict too huh... oh that is funny. glad your enjoying your b-day present... I would expect nothing less from your tech savy boys. happy reading
oh and your heritage days looks really fun. for over 25 years the stakes here held a pioneer day at the Kern county muesems pioneer village... free and open to the public, it was so much fun. but then last year the museum canceled it, because the church wouldn't pay $8,000 to rent the venue. so now we don't have pioneer day anymore... bummer

Oh my dear sister... Let me quote someone, "I resisted reading "Twilight" for a while, but when I did I fell for it hook, line, and sinker!" Yep, it is that kind of book.

But! I have decided to wait for the e-release, so I do have some self control still left! Of course, the day is not over and I have to continue to resist the urge to jump in the Tahoe and head to Costco and I'm not doing errands today or I may just stop by the Walmart instead! Yes, the trials I must endure!
