Today we celebrated the life of Stephen's Dad and Scott's Grandfather. It was a beautiful day... no wind, which was a pleasant surprise because apparently it is mostly windy down that way. It was fitting that the day of his funeral was pleasant... just as him.
Orvin C. Jenks
He was born Sept. 5, 1920, in Fairview, the son of Joseph Alfred and Meda Smith Jenks. As a young child, he moved with his parents to Cache Valley, then as an 11-year-old, his parents moved to Idaho where his Granddad Smith had moved. He married Nona Marie Morrison on Feb. 11, 1944, in the Salt Lake Temple. Orvin served in the United States Navy as a Seaman 2nd Class during World War II on the USS Boston in and around Japan. Orvin was a "Tiller of the Soil," farming all his life and raising milk cows. He joined a partnership with Rodney A. Hansen and farmed in the Burley and Oakley area for many years. In later years, he sold his farm and joined with Howard Adams and Sons, working with them for many years until he retired. He was active in his church work doing family history work. In earlier years, he served as secretary of the Quorum of the Seventies then served as secretary of the High Priests Group.
He is survived by his wife, Nona Marie; four sons, DeVaughn (Pam) of Oakley, Stephen (Sara) of Brigham City, Utah, Robert (Janet) of Moreland and Brian (Candace) of Minot, N.D.; daughter in-law, Lucille (Morgan K. Jones) of Pasco, Wash.; three daughters, Joanne (Randy) Cook of Smithfield, Utah, Nina (Tim) Osterhout of Rupert and Marla (Chuck) Osterhout of Declo; one brother, Elden (Glenna) Jenks of Basin City, Wash.; one sister, Gwen McCombs of Rupert; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Johnson of Buhl. At the time of his death, he had 47 grandchildren and 62 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Eugene; sister-in-law, Marie King Jenks; brother-in-law, Don McCombs; sister, Annie (Ken) Johnson; daughter, Karla; son, Lawrence; and grandson, Derek Osterhout.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, April 6, at the Oakley LDS Stake Center, 355 N. Center in Oakley, with Bishop Doug Cranney officiating. Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday, April 5, at Morrison Funeral Home, 188 S. Highway 24 in Rupert, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Monday at the church prior to the service. A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Gem Memorial Gardens in Burley, with military rites by the Mini-Cassia Veterans. Arrangements are under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home and Crematory in Rupert.
