Yes, WOW... that would be the word!

At Chance's Elementary School the school Principal always writes a weekly newsletter... this is an excerpt from todays.

"To be part of a school and community that provides such an enriched educational experience for its children is truly an honor.  Yesterday when I received my "monthly biscuit" (paycheck), I was once again struck with how blessed I am to have been given the opportunity to spend my professional career under these wonderful conditions.

And now to burst the proverbial seams even more - this time with yet another prideful moment. You may - or may not know - that the Association of Pleasanton Teachers (APT) recently asked its members if they were interested in giving up a percentage of their salary for the coming school year in order to save programs for our children.  Last Friday, March 26 they conducted an election/survey of their members.  The teachers voted in overwhelming favor of reducing their salaries in order to help our schools to restore programs.  The final tally showed that nearly 70% of the teachers were in support of the self-imposed salary cuts.  The classified employees union, CSEA, is working out a similar agreement, and the details will be worked out early next week.  The management association, the first employee group to take voluntary salary reductions, agreed to do so earlier this month.

Crisis and hardship are never welcomed; but adversity is, nevertheless, a fact of life.  So when misfortune knocks, those affected will be tested.  Such "tests" generally bring out either the best in folks, or the worst.

I am very proud to see how ALL employed in PUSD are willing to make personal sacrifices in order to mitigate the impacts that the global economic collapse has had on our community.  By setting their own self-interest aside in the interest of kids, they have most certainly passed the test."

Setting their own self-interest aside... Wow... words to live by, words to live by.
Well said Mr. Rad!
