GAS-- Is it deciding whether you go out or not?

My daily read is the Deseret News.  Here is an  interesting story.  At our home we have have been doing and trying a few things to help save on gas usage.  But I like this families approach-- they are using 1/2 gallon a gas a month-- by doing everything on bikes!  I have thought about putting a basket on my bike (not to carry Chance, he can ride his own bike!) but to carry groceries and I like the concept of the help in  the "mommy spread".

So what have some of you done to help save on gas.  We are already at the $4 gallon mark-- Scott has a diesel truck and that is about 50 cents higher then regular.  So he has been trying out different ways to get to work- he has a motorcycle scooter thing but forewent it yesterday because of the heat and drove the truck.
