R-E-S-P-E-C-T What it means to Me

So you have probably heard that the California Supreme Court overturned the peoples vote in 2000 of "Marriage is between a Man and Women".   I was pretty shocked-- I actually did not know that could happen,  I really thought that my vote counted and I did not think that a group of people could decide that I was too stupid to know how to vote correctly.  I think the phrase was "the people got it wrong".

So I have been thinking about and reflecting once again on this issue and how I feel about it. Now in 2000 the LDS Church and other churches in California took a moral stand on this issue.  It was a hot topic and we were asked to take an active role in passing the Marriage Initiative.  During this time, in our ward (LDS Congregation) in Sunnyvale CA we had a family who suffered the lose of their son due to the turmoil he felt being a Christian and being gay and not being able to reconcile the two.   You can read about his story at this link and this one from Newsweek.

So as this topic heats up once again-- this post is not about what my opinion is in regards to same sex marriage, but it is about being Christlike in the words that we speak. We should be respectful of all people -- even when they are different from ourselves.   Even when they make irritating sounds when they eat!  (that is for my boys)

Every human being, of whatever origin,
of whatever station, deserves respect.
We must each respect others
even as we respect ourselves.--by U. Thant
